Super Awesome Giveaway

May 21, 2014

life!!!EDIT, Part 2!!!

Ok, I’m not sure how many of you have looked at this in the last… 30 minutes. But Viking isn’t ready for ARCs of The Book Of Life to be out in the wild yet. So, the giveaway is going to run until much closer to the pub date of July 15. I will close the giveaway on June 30 and then ship the book out to arrive on the pub date.  I’m sorry I’m having to change it, but I really don’t want the nice folks at Viking to be upset with me because they’re already being extraordinarily awesome to give us these ARCs to start with.

So, to enter go to this page: Book of Life Giveaway and go through the options. You can earn lots of entries by commenting on this post, following the blog, following me on Twitter, follow Deborah Harkness or Viking on twitter. All the info is on the Rafflecopter page. Thanks so much!

Me, me, me, please :). I need to know what happens to Diana, Matthew and the Twins. What role will Philippe, Em and Rebecca play in the war between the witches and vampires? Will Sara give up drinking? And most important, (because @DebHarkness will not tell me) What happens to Jack?

My favorite part of the triology – hard question! I’d have to say the depth of the characters. Every character in the book is written so richly and with such attention to detail that you really feel like you know each character in-depth. This makes the relationships between the characters that much more powerful and emotive when you go through their various journeys.

Sorry, I can’t spell today – trilogy, not triology (that would be a blend of trigonometry and biology, as it were).

It’s very difficult to name my favorite part of the All Souls Trilogy. The relationships with the characters are so endearing, the mix of history and fantasy, the descriptiveness of every sight, smell, touch.. They take you there. These books have a special place in my heart and in my life. May be weird to say, but if you love these books as I do, you get it.

The weaving of historical figures in with fictional characters. Giving the historical figures a different back story. It made them seem alive and breathing, not a sum of dry details in a history book.

I love the books and can’t wait for the third part of the trilogy to arrive!

The hard part is picking just one part as a favorite. The way that history and fiction are woven together into a seamless whole is my favorite thing about the series. Matthew and Diana’s romance in the face of circumstance is also a favorite and I keep hoping that there is a way through to happiness for the two of them and their family. The first time I read the books I stayed up all night and read them straight through until finished—-in the middle of my second year of law school. It was a particularly bright move, but I just couldn’t put the novels down. Thank you, Deb Harkness for a wonderful series!

How do you limit the answer to one favorite thing? One thing I love is the development of the characters. This is what first pulled me into the beautiful adventure.

my favorite part is when Diana and Matthew visited the Chateu and meet Philippe again ;(

My favorite part? Wow, so many! I must admit the getting-to-know-you part in ADOW gets me every time I read it. I’m also very impressed by the underlying theme of acceptance. And the mix of great characters and history and mythology is amazing.

I would love a chance to win this book, as for picking my favorite part, that’s a tough one since I totally love both books so far and can’t wait to read BOL! but if I had to choose it would be when Mathew and his brother save Diana and she flew! I felt as though I was right there with her…truly amazing :)

I have recommended this trilogy to EVERYONE I know! It has been one of the best trilogies so far that I have ever read.
My favorite part of the trilogy has been the traveling back in time to 1590. I never thought I would be so wrapped up in it and so interested but there is a first for everything!! Now I want to learn everything there is about Elizabethan England :)
Deborah Harkness is a captivating writer, who knows how to draw readers in and keep us up into the wee hours of the morning!!! I CANNOT WAIT to read The Book of Life.

I could say my favorite part of the trilogy is opening Discovery of Witches, my least favorite will be closing Book of Life. Within those wonderful pages I find the note that Phillippe left for Ysabeau to be the most touching. It allowed her to start healing and made her final remembrance of her beloved the complete, strong man rather then the broken, shattered being he finally became.

  25. May 25, 2014 7:06 pm

My favorite part of the trilogy is in Shadow of Night, when Diana realizes shes a weaver and then henceforth, how she is growing into her power! Especially when Loiusa and Kit trap her. Awesome strong heroine!

It is so hard to choose my favorite part from A Discovery of Witches and A Shadow of Night. I could choose some of the more exciting aspects of each book such as when Diana shoots down Juliette, then slices her own wrist to bring Matthew back to life after she summons the goddess. There are too many exciting moments from A Shadow of Night, not that I’m complaining. My favorite moment from A Discovery of Witches would be when Matthew takes Diana to his rooms after she failed to call Ashmole 782 back from the stacks. I love how angry Diana is at Matthew. I find it funnier how she burns holes into Matthew’s rug. Matthew is bemused during Diana’s firework display and then forces her to explain why the magic came forth. During this part, Diana and Matthew make clear their feelings for each other. They do not speak about their feelings openly, but the chemistry between the two of them is much clearer after their argument. When Matthew stops Diana from running away, he asks her if she really believed all he was interested in was an old manuscript. He blood begins to sing so loudly, Diana says she can even hear it. I can’t help but giggle whenever I read about Diana’s predicament. In Shadow of Night, I love Diana’s first confrontation with Philippe, the scene where Diana becomes a blood member of Philippe’s family, Diana’s wedding gift from Matthew and how he can sew straight, Matthew’s marriage vows and how Diana insists they are wrong, Ysabeau’s last note from Philippe, Diana’s first weaving, picking Jack up off the street and when Diana tells Matthew she was a “homeless waif” once, the Arbour Diane Diana used her blood for… I could go on and on, but I won’t. I love the All Souls Trilogy. The story is captivating, the characters are inspiring, and they are written with such care. Deborah and her editors did miss in A Discovery of Witches Marcus saying Diana is AB negative, but we all know she is the universal recipient, which is AB positive.

I love how seamlessly the fictional tale is woven in with real people from the late 1500s. I’m a bit of a history nerd and the Elizabethan era is one of my favorites, so it’s especially interesting to me. My other favorite part of the series has to be Gallowglass ☺

It is impossible to pick a favorite part in the books. I will say what I love the most is standing up for who you are, live & family. You don’t have meaning in life without them. I have had to stand up for who I love too much in my life and it shouldn’t be so hard. I love that following your heart is right!

I just finished re-reading ADoW and SoN, and I can say with confidence that my favorite part of the series is the relationship between Diana and Matthew. They’re not perfect–they fight and challenge one another–but I enjoy seeing their love develop and strengthen. I can only imagine their bond becomes even stronger in Book of Life and when they become parents!

I can’t pick any one favorite part of the trilogy. It is so well written with history and fiction interwoven to bring the reader into the world of Matthew and Diana. We are made to feel part of the family and go through the tears and heartaches as well as the joy and accomplishments as they travel through time and home again. Deborah Harkness has woven acceptance and tolerance into her stories. She has brought so many together onto the “All Souls Trilogy Discussion Group” on Facebook as well. The group breaks down and discusses each aspect of the books and digs further into the historical references that can sometimes bring so much more clarity to the stories as well :)
